Wherever there is fresh vivacity, it naturally finds its gender of expression (Vyd\u016bnas, \u201cConsciousness\u201d)<\/em><\/p>\n

One might get the impression that interdisciplinarity as a concept is not very relevant in discussing processes in contemporary art. Only occasionally does it make a ghost-like appearance here and there. Interdisciplinarity is hardly ever invoked in either critical essays on contemporary art or artists’ own position statements.<\/p>\n

When interdisciplinarity comes across as a given, there seems to be little need for new definitions. Many an artist of the young generation have long since ceased using the word \u201cinterdisciplinarity\u201d when discussing their own work. They make no attempt to revisit the concept or reinvigorate it in any other way. Still, the concept does come up in contemporary art, albeit in a somewhat odd manner. One often encounters a peculiar concept of interdisciplinarity \u2013 or a conceptual bubble \u2013 which is self-contained and can serve as a safe format.<\/p>\n

The artists in the exhibition are invited to attend a talk with the concept and\/or the curator. The topic for this talk is the role of interdisciplinarity in the context of contemporary art and their own oeuvre.<\/p>\n

Essentially, the exhibition invites to (re)consider the notion of interdisciplinarity\/interdisciplinary art. Doing the (re)considering are members of the Lithuanian Interdisciplinary Artists Union and independent creators. Their works will not only give representation, but also indirectly supplement the idea and definitions of interdisciplinarity.<\/p>\n

The exhibition opening will take place on October 17th, 6 pm and will be on view at Vilnius Gates complex and Jonas Mekas Visual Arts Center (14 Gyn\u0117j\u0173 Street, Vilnius) until October 31st on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays,\u00a04-8 pm.<\/p>\n
