For the second time, Vilnius Gallery Weekend\u2019s satellite exhibition \u201cDEPAS \/ DEPOT\u201d invites you to visit the XIXth
\ncentury locomotive repair department as well as a suite \u2013 formerly tsar\u2019s appartment \u2013 on the 2nd floor of Lentvaris railway
\nstation. On the 8th and 9th of September six artists will be presenting works that were created or adapted particularly for
\nthese places.
\nAccording to the physiological terminology, retention of blood, that may be used only in case of an emergency, is called a
\ndepot. Similarly, the locomotive depot, an industrial repair centre, becomes a place for contemporary art only once a year.
\nHere, like in a clotted reservoir of the city\u2019s memories, are gathered narratives of its unstable identity.
\nThe exhibition interrupts Lentvaris\u2019s everyday and explores the stories of a local context \u2013 the rich
\nand idle life that was happening when the rails were set and, in contrast, today\u2019s weary rumble. The place was once intended
\nto be a heaven on earth, yet overtime it became an in-between point, a transitional zone. The park has become wild, the
\nwaterfalls have clogged \u2013 like an organism\u2019s depots silently waiting for a new life.
\nSound installations, scents, sculptural objects, utopian visuals \u2013 the artists have been trying to grasp the fears of the place
\nand to foresee its future. The town was introduced and, in time, got
\naccustomed to some exotic trees, cultures and customs, yet it has remained unacquainted and untamed to most of us.
