On 7 December 2021, at 18:00, the art initiative Verp<\/em>\u0117jos<\/em>, together with the Lithuanian Interdisciplinary Artists\u2019 Association and cultural centre SODAS 2123 invites you to the presentation of the project Lavk\u0117<\/em>.Slow and sandy expedition<\/em>at SODAS 2123 (Vitebsko Str. 23, Vilnius). Artists who took part in the expedition will present their projects \u2013 Andrej Polukord, Dovil\u0117 Bagdonait\u0117, Poj\u016b\u010di\u0173 teatras<\/em>(Karolina \u017dernyt\u0117, \u0160ar\u016bn\u0117 Pe\u010diukonyt\u0117, Saul\u0117 Norkut\u0117), Gabriel\u0117 Vetkinait\u0117, Agota Zdanavi\u010di\u016bt\u0117, and \u017divil\u0117 Luk\u0161yt\u0117 \u2013 as well as project curator and coordinator team \u2013 Laura Garb\u0161tien\u0117, Danut\u0117 Gambickait\u0117, Lina Rukevi\u010di\u016bt\u0117, Indr\u0117 Li\u0161kauskait\u0117.<\/p>\n

The village motor-shop, or lavk\u0117<\/em>, well-known to many, regularly supply the inhabitants of remote villages with essential food products, and the arrival of the lavk\u0117<\/em>itself is also an opportunity for people to gather and talk. In the Slow and sandy expedition<\/em>, the idea of the travelling lavk\u0117<\/em>was applied by the artists through collecting material for their work, for creation process as well as for presentation of work to the residents of remote areas in the vicinity of \u0160il\u0173 Dz\u016bkija, visiting the villages of Kabeliai, Marcinkonys, Musteika, Pies\u010diai, Dar\u017ein\u0117l\u0117s, \u0160kl\u0117riai, Grybaulia, A\u0161a\u0161nykai and elsewhere. The creators were actively consulted by the local people: gatherers of natural goods, farmers of biodynamic farms, botanists, naturalists, ethnographers, beekeepers, herbalists, craftsmen, and public figures.<\/p>\n

The expeditions took place in June\u2013October, and the artists who participated resided and travelled down the \u0160il\u0173 Dz\u016bkija routes for 1\u20132 months. The material gathered and works created during the expeditions were presented to local residents by travelling on the routes to remote settlements, as well as during the final event in the village of Kabeliai in Var\u0117na district on 30 October 2021.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, it was really a challenging period for me. For the first time I drove across Lithuania in a car and I wasn\u2019t very confident driving. Burning firewood for heating was the first time for me too. Well water, morning shivers were also memorable. But you can get used to practically anything, you can learn how to do everything. The beauty of nature, the kindness of people outweighs it all. The sense of community in the countryside left a deep impression. Just a month later, I felt as if I knew everyone and everyone knew me,\u201d remembers artist Gabriel\u0117 Vetkinait\u0117, who participated in the expeditions. Other artists will share more impressions about their experience in \u0160il\u0173 Dz\u016bkija during the final presentation of the project in Vilnius.<\/p>\n
