Gediminaitė Barbora

With a background in Textile Art and Design, as well as Islamic Studies, Barbora Gediminaitė is currently conducting artistic research with a primary focus on Islamic spatialities. Questions surrounding the construction of Islamic religious space and its contextuality have become the central axis of her recent work. Islam, spatial narration, and the readability of cultural signs are the key concepts of her artistic practice. Here, multilayered perception, complex narratives and the (re)placement and (dis)placement of signs form the foundation of her concept of cultural misunderstanding. Her primary focus is on unexplored and misunderstood, or mistreated cultural identities, sociocultural hierarchies and their asymmetries.
