Kasparaviciute Benigna

Benigna Kasparavičiūtė (b. 1978) studied painting at the Academy of Arts of Lithuania, so most of her works are conceptual painting series. However, like Eglė Ridikaitė, Jurga Barilaitė or Aistė Kirvelytė, who not only paint but also use other media, she was influenced by the emancipation of painting in the 1990s (including the rhetoric of the “death of painting”), and by interdisciplinary art in Vilnius in general (at the M.K. Čiurlionis School of Art, she was a student of A. Raila, N. and G. Urbonas). Thus, from around 2006, alongside painting, Kasparavičiūtė started to work with video and photographic media, and also collaborated with Kęstutis Šapoka in the creation of the latter’s video performances/performative projects.
