Martyna Plioplytė-Zujienė (1983) is an artist who speaks about caring for the world, which comes from personal searches for spiritual sustainability and their discoveries, and inner empathy, listening to the collective memory, the present, and focusing on ecological and intertwined problems. The geopolitical threat is now an increasingly engrossing and disturbing one.
Martyna is an interdisciplinary artist, who graduated with a Master’s degree in Textile Art and Design from Vilnius Academy of Arts in 2024, and during her studies she deepened her knowledge in a creative residency in France “Weave up!”. She has been selected to participate in the BIEN 2023 Biennial of Contemporary Textile Art “The Sun” in Slovenia and to represent Lithuania at international level. In 2023 she was selected for the international exhibition “Denudare feminas vestis” in Como, Italy, Miniartextile ’32. In 2024 she participated in the Fite Biennial, Clermont-Ferrand and was invited to participate in the Lithuanian season in France 2024, representing the Vilnius Academy of Arts in the group exhibition “As Wave is Driven by Wave”, Lyon, Le Showroom Galerie 7.
Martyna prefers to conceptualise visual art, video, sound, performance, mapping, text, collective art making. She describes interdisciplinarity in her work as freedom, breaking out of the limits of one discipline, finding new ways of expression, experimenting. Freedom to tell the truth about the time you are in, as you understand and feel it, freedom to be sensitive and open to the world. And to act – without defining boundaries, to be part of.
