Trumpis Dainius

In my artistic research, I analyse the states of liminal reality, the repetitions of various senses, the opposition of nature and emptiness in the chaos of man-controlled objects, and the fragments of visual memory in our consciousness.

I often look back and refer to childhood memories, different cultural and geographical contexts, and experiences from different journeys. I still cherish the sensual state left over from my childhood, where I managed to create an imaginary place in a large enigmatic structure.

As an artist, I am interested in both physical and psychological reactions to form, space and surface. In my creative practice, I search for undefined boundaries between materials, dimensions, “high” and “low” art. Often I create temporary phenomena/works out of whatever materials are available at the time, oscillating between several extremes – the organic and the unnatural, the two-dimensional and the three-dimensional, the static and the dynamic, the light and the shadow.

My field of work is a meeting point between sculpture, painting, installation and ready-made. It’s an improvised process, something uniquely intuitive. Various objects and objects seem to provide the keys to unlock and activate the artworks. Sometimes the idea does not come a priori, it is the process of research and creation that configures the idea.
