The season kicks off with a residency by artist Jelena Škulienė at one of France’s oldest residency centres, Moly-Sabata, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in July. Her exhibition at Le Polaris will open on 10 October, presenting the results of the residency.
Jelena Škulis is a material and community-based artist and researcher.Graduated with a degree in psychology and textile art and design nowadays she performs Doctoral research Vilnius Academy of Arts, exploring relations and boundaries between community and material. Jelena and her colleague Dileta Deikė opened workshop & studio Handwork (SODAS 2123). The aim of Handwork is to explore this activity through practice and rethink it throughout frames of history, philosophy, and daily life.
Moly-Sabata is a residency program operating all year long. They provide studios and facilities, as part of a local, national and international network of partners and opportunities to produce new artworks. Their public agenda offers an annual show during fall, several offsite exhibitions and education projects to keep celebrating a place for hospitality since 1927. So is Moly-Sabata France’s oldest active artist residency.
This residency is organised as part of the Ciconia Ciconia project, which is jointly realised by LIAA, Studio Ganek (Lyon), La Halle (Pont-en-Royans) and Le Polaris (Corbas), in collaboration with Moly-Sabata / Fondation Albert Gleizes (Sablons) and La Fabrique des Luddites (Chatte).
The project is part of the Lithuanian season in France 2024. The Lithuanian Season in France 2024 is organised by: in Lithuania: the Lithuanian Culture Institute under the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania, in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in France, Commissioner Virginija Vitkienė.
