Lithuanian Interdisciplinary Artists’ Association (LIAA) ends the year with the introduction of a new series of small-format publications “One idea”.
The main idea and principle of the series – one notebook, one artist, one idea that can manifest itself in different forms each time: as notes of ideas, fragments of thoughts, various forms of self-reflection, pulled out from long-forgotten drawers, computer hard drives or right out of artists’ heads.
The series will be launched as two publications. The first one will introduce an essay “Emptiness Examination” by an essayist, art critic, storyteller Ernestas Parulskis (b. 1963). With his usual wit he tells a story about the experience of being an “expert in emptiness”. The second publication of the series is a surreal collage “Breathing Silence” by a contemporary art creator, director, set designer Gintaras Makarevičius (b. 1965). This collage creates an immersive plane of dismantled space, time, reality and dream that speaks about love, intimacy and connection. Both texts convey a kind of internal revision.
According to art critic and exhibition curator Jolanta Marcišauskytė-Jurašienė, editor of „One idea“ notebooks: “Both E. Parulskis’ and G. Makarevičius’ texts are very different, but both are autobiographical and niche, intended primarily for themselves, but also perfectly understood in the field of culture. The rest of the world would not die of pain if those publications continued to dust in the drawer or had not been written at all. When we say “I have an idea,” we immediately realize that it won’t necessarily be genius or needed by anyone. And who decided that all ideas must be useful, adaptable, embodied? I wanted to see this series of ideas from individual artists as a disinterested, personal, and authentic set of not-so-important, unnecessary ideas that would become more and more interesting over the years, involving more and more artists“.
The publication will be available via www.artbooks.lt in February.
