On 22, 23, 24 March 2024, the second part of the “Entity: Unisona” project will take place in the Entity space (in the cultural centre SODAS 2123), with the “Praxinoscope” event series revolving around animation, presenting contemporary technologies and collaborative practices. Over the course of three days, Pijus Čeikauskas, Eglė Davidavičė, Antanas Skučas and Lina Vaiškūnaitė will introduce guests to their artistic practice and creative process, share their experiences and openly answer topical questions about animation.
Events programme:
On 22nd of March 2024 (Friday), 17:00 Pijus Čeikauskas and Lina Vaiškūnaitė will organise a screening and discussion on working and communicating in a group of creatives, on empathising with the character or situation being created, and translating all this into an animated film. Afterwards, a tour of the ART SHOT studio in the SODAS 2123 cultural centre will take place.
On 23rd of March 2024 (Saturday), 14:00 Antanas Skučas will present innovative animation technologies, there will be a chance to try 3D scanning, and a discussion will be held on how artificial intelligence is changing the film industry. A screening of the short film “Planets and Robots” will take place.
On 24th of March 2024 (Sunday), 17:00 a discussion with the director Eglė Davidavičė will take place on self-reliance in filmmaking, the use of archives in animation, the benefits of co-production and working in an international team. The above themes will be discussed during the presentation of excerpts from animation projects “Combing” and “The One Who Knows”, and during an informal conversation about the behind-the-scenes processes.
About the artists:
Pijus Čeikauskas is an interdisciplinary artist and illustrator who grew up and is currently based in Klaipėda. Pijus oscillates between digital and physical work, encompassing animation, graphic design, plywood installations, murals and comic art.
Lina Vaiškūnaitė is a character designer and animator, currently working on 2D animation projects at SneakyBox studio. She has contributed to the short animated films “Mora Mora” (dir. Jurga Šeduikytė), “Garrano” (dir. David Doutel & Vasco Sá), “Way Better” (dir. Skirmanta Jakaitė) and the long-form animated film “White Plastic Sky” (dir. Tibor Bánóczki, Sarolta Szabó).
Antanas Skučas – animator, director. He works with both traditional animation tools and new media (XR, VR, AR), and has contributed to various interactive projects and animated films. His debut animated film “Diary of a Childhood” was awarded the Silver Crane 2009. He created video projections for the 2015 Expo Milan event.
Eglė Davidavičė is an animation director and visual artist. In 2019 she graduated from the Vilnius Academy of Arts with a Bachelor’s degree in animation, her films “Birth” and “Combing” were screened at Lithuanian and foreign festivals. Recently she completed the creative work on the animated short film “The One Who Knows”, which will premiere on 22 March during the film festival “Kino pavasaris”. The filmmaker is interested in themes of intimacy, body, self-care, trauma and disability.
The events are free of charge and last 1-2 hours.
