๐•ƒ๐•€๐”ธ๐”ธ โ„™๐•ฃ๐•š๐•Ÿ๐•ฅ: How do printmaking initiatives work?

2023-12-06

Saturday 16 December at 1 p.m. The second ๐•ƒ๐•€๐”ธ๐”ธ โ„™๐•ฃ๐•š๐•Ÿ๐•ฅ discussion “How do printmaking initiatives work?” will take place in the project space of the cultural complex SODAS 2123.

Discussion “How do printmaking initiatives work?” with Gabrielฤ— Gudaitytฤ— and Inga Navickaitฤ—-Drฤ…sutฤ—, founders of the analogue printing and self-printing studio Hands on Press, and Staselฤ— Jakunskaite, founder of the risograph printing and illustration gallery Hungry Eyes. Moderator – Justฤ— Kos

The discussion will focus on themes of printing limited edition prints as a separate medium or a separate art-making field. What are the production processes pertinent to it and what are the specifics of it’s distribution? What renders the value lying behind the larger edition of the artwork?

๐•ƒ๐•€๐”ธ๐”ธ โ„™๐•ฃ๐•š๐•Ÿ๐•ฅ is an initiative for limited edition reproductions of artists’ works. With this project, LIAA aims to enrich the print format by incorporating different artistic disciplines. The prints become photographs, sketches or other experiments of the associationโ€™s artists’ works (performances, sculptures, freeze-frames from video works, installations, fragments of artworks).

Hands on Press is an analogue printing and self-editing studio run by two pairs of hands on press – Inga and Gabrielฤ—. Hands grasp the press from all sides: in the crawl space in the centre of Kaunas, you can find risographs, silk-screen machines, paper cutters, analogue presses. We also offer design, illustration and bookbinding services. Since 2023, we have a gallery on our windowsill, and during the summer months we host residents.

Hungry Eyes is an illustration gallery, art shop and print shop based in Vilnius. The gallery showcases the work of local and international artists working in illustration, urban art, printmaking, and graphic design. Hungry Eyes is currently based in two locations in the city and regularly organises exhibitions and events including book launches, artist talks and workshops.
