Forensic Flâneur: Migrating Art Academies in Kaunas

March 27 – April 3, 2015, Kaunas, Lithuania

Within the context of social anguish created by late political and economical conditions Migrating Art Academies (MigAA) laboratory „Forensic Flâneur” is focusing on collection of evidence. Emerging artists in collaboration with curators, scientists and established artists will explore the theme of breaking law/rule/believe/routine from different vantage points including social activism and civil participation, which became a new norm in contemporary art practices. Public lectures and the result presentation of the workshops in Kaunas are open to everyone interested.

The planed array of activities will primarily focus on parameters of group dynamic in relationship to existing administrative, aesthetic, urban and the other larger formative structures. As a location Kaunas is marked with disobedience ranging from revolt―a political criminality as resistance to the imposed order to organized crime as a radical compliance with the mythos of gain.

Led by Žilvinas Lilas and Mindaugas Gapševičius (LT/DE) the laboratory will last one week including public lectures, expeditions and collaborative intensive work focusing on theoretical and practical production with interdisciplinary and critical approach. The first public lecture will be held on Saturday 28 March by Žilvinas Lilas, professor at Academy of Media Arts Cologne, Germany, and it will suggest to think of Crime As Spectacle. On Saturday afternoon a lecture by Kasparas Pocius, one of the organizers of activist media and Free University (LUNI), the radical self-education network in Lithuania, will follow. Kasparas Pocius will touch upon indiscernibility in terms of public spaces and nomadic strategies. The third lecture by Hendrik Speck, a Professor of Digital Media at the University of Applied Sciences Kaiserslautern, Germany, will take place on Sunday 29 March and will discuss the issues of code, control and religion.

Expected outcome of the „Forensic Flâneur” will be a collection of (audio-visual or verbatim) ideas dealing with non-sanctioned ruptures. At the end of the laboratory on Thursday 2 April an exhibition with leading discussions will be organised.

The Migrating Art Academies platform is aimed at innovation and experience exchange in art teaching and research. It is a network of European universities and independent organisations. The laboratory „Forensic Flâneur” is supported by Lithuanian Council For Culture and the Nordic Culture Point. This laboratory is organised as a collaboration between Institutio media, Kaunas University of Technology and Lithuanian Interdisciplinary Artists’ Association.
