Open call for LIAA members: “April” writing residency in Trakai this October

The Lithuanian Interdisciplinary Artists’ Association, together with the international residency programme “April”, invites LIAA members to apply for a month-long writing residency by Lake Galvė.

One-off stipend for the entire period: EUR 1000
Application period: July 7–31, 2026

Applications may be submitted in Lithuanian or English. Recommended languages for the texts developed during the residency: Lithuanian and English.

“April” is an international residency programme for those who write, rewrite, edit, translate, assemble, compose, voice, or otherwise think through various textual genres – from the novel, essay, poetry and criticism to scripts, performance writing, and ghostwriting. The residency is located in Trakai, a picturesque town among lakes, approximately 30 km from Vilnius. It is a place where contradictions, fantasies and everyday life meet: past grandeur and provincial ordinariness, multicultural identity and lakeside landscapes, wooden and brick-built Trakai, local histories, folkloric narratives and the rhythms of contemporary life.

For this residency, we invite LIAA members whose creative practice involves writing, text-based or text-related practices. When applying, please present a specific idea for a text-based practice that you would like to develop during the residency: a text being prepared for publication or a book, a video or performance script, or another type of text-based artwork. Please note that the residency does not provide a separate workshop space. It offers the most suitable conditions for individual writing practice, research, editorial work and focused engagement with text.

During the residency, the selected LIAA member will be able to live and work in the “April” studio apartment on the shore of Lake Galvė, develop their creative and research interests, and engage with the local context. The residency programme includes professional creative, curatorial, editorial and expert consultations aimed at developing, editing or translating the text.

Authors will have the opportunity to publish completed texts, agreed upon with the editors, on the platforms “Artnews.lt” or “Echo Gone Wrong”. The editorial teams undertake to pay an honorarium for texts published in the journals. The resident is also invited to take part in the public programme of “April” by organising readings, initiating conversations or discussions, presenting a performance or a film programme.

For the application, please submit:

– a brief presentation of your creative practice (up to 350 words);
– a description of the text or text-based project you plan to develop during the residency (up to 2 pages);
– a biography / CV, including examples of your texts and projects.

The selection will be carried out by members of the LIAA and “April” residency teams. Applicants will be informed of the results by August 17.
