MACRO – Museum of Contemporary Art of Rome and the Lithuanian Interdisciplinary Artists’ Association  announce an international open call – residency for curators 2026

MACRO – Museum of Contemporary Art of Rome and the Lithuanian Interdisciplinary Artists’ Association (LIAA) are pleased to announce the launch of the Rome–Vilnius Residency for Curators 2026, an international curatorial residency programme developed in collaboration with the Cultural Centre SODAS 2123.

Conceived as a pilot exchange programme, the initiative aims to strengthen cultural ties between Italy and Lithuania while fostering dialogue between curatorial practices, institutional frameworks, and contemporary art scenes in Rome and Vilnius.

The open call offers a residency at MACRO in Rome (9–13 March 2026) for two Lithuanian curators, members of LIAA, and a residency at SODAS 2123 in Vilnius (1–5 June 2026) for two curators based in Rome.

During the residency period, selected curators will be introduced to the host institutions’ programmes and current exhibitions, take part in studio visits with local artists, and visit major contemporary art organisations and independent spaces, gaining in-depth insight into the cultural landscapes of both cities.

The programme provides accommodation, workspace, international travel, and per diem. Participants will be asked to submit a short written reflection on their experience within two weeks after the end of the residency.

The Rome–Vilnius Residency for Curators 2026 is part of Cultura Lituana in Italia 2025–2026, implemented by the Lithuanian Culture Institute and the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in the Italian Republic.

Results announced: 31 January 2026
