Lithuanian Interdisciplinary Artists’ Association (LIAA) internet radio presents a playlist of sound sculptures. It was inspired by an intentionto look more closely into the sonic world of sound sculpture’s. The starting point for this and upcoming playlists was an article by Pasquale Napolitano published on digicult.it: http://digicult.it/digimag/issue-054/about-sonic-sculpture-between-disciplines-categories/

The first playlist of sound sculptures on LTMKS radio is “Sonambient” – a series of eleven albums by artist Harry Bertoia. The playlist will be available online on radio.letmekoo.ltthroughout April.

Harry Bertoia (1915-1976) is an Italian-born American sculptor, sound artist and furniture designer. He used his sculptures, made of metal and other materials, to extract sound. By moving the material with the help of wind and touch, Bertoia created different sounds and tones, which he collected into musical compositions and released as “Sonambient” – a series of eleven records.

Enthusiastic beginnings and recognition of failures marking a long quest to seek and sometimes find a form, a structure, a sound or a way. A find that would tend to make me feel what I am or one that would cause a change in me, would simply deepen the mystery. Facing a problem, yes. Solving it, more often than not, would prove evanescent.

The acceptance of the reality of the dream as a stimulant and propelland toward achieving the other reality generated an atmosphere of involvement rather than passivity. Immersion into the vast recesses of the mind leading to the realization that this inner world is as immense as the cosmos outside…

At this eternal moment, I have a gut feeling that awareness of the miracle of life is the purpose of life. I might never know…(Harry Bertoia)
