In collaboration with Akee (Aleknaičiai Culture and Education Space), LIAA continues the successful experience of the previous years and invites its members to use the remote Akee studio for creative work during the summer season. This year in June, Aistė Marija Stankevičiūtė will be the first artist to work in this Akee studio.
Aistė Marija Stankevičiūtė is an artist and writer. Her texts, drawings and sculptures are like clues that open up possible scenarios of events, hinting at the participants, leaving the real story to the imagination’s speculation. The artist focuses on cities after working hours, images of the ‘protagonist’ dictated by cinema and internet culture, and everyday life that dissolves into fantasy.
Aistė Marija Stankevičiūtė holds a Bachelor’s degree in photography and media art and a Master’s degree in sculpture from the Vilnius Academy of Arts, and is a member of the Lithuanian Interdisciplinary Artists’ Association as well as a Rupert alumna. She currently writes texts and exhibition reviews for online contemporary art newspapers, combines artistic and curatorial practice, and works as a communication coordinator at Rupert and Radvila Palace Art Museum.
During her residency at Akee, Aistė Marija continues to produce a series of drawings and texts for a publication, which is yet to be disclosed, as well as sketches for a new series of works.
Akee is a cultural and educational space in Aleknaičiai, created in a former village school. It is a community initiative of Aleknaičiai, which aims to enrich the Lithuanian and international cultural discourse related to rural areas, to create favourable opportunities for cultural creators to implement socially sustainable projects, and to increase the quality of cultural education. The Aleknaičiai community carries out its activities in the premises of the Aleknaičiai village school, which was in operation from 1939 to 2000. Inspired by its educational, community inclusion and socio-cultural activities, Akee aims to continue the tradition of curiosity, sharing and cooperation that was previously fostered in this place.
LIAA activities are financed by the Lithuanian Council for Culture.
