Neringa Bumblienė and Monika Lipšic residency at MACRO – Museum of Contemporary Art of Rome

2026-03-26

From 9 to 13 March, curators Neringa Bumblienė and Monika Lipšic, members of the Lithuanian Interdisciplinary Artists’ Association (LTMKS), took part in a week-long residency at the MACRO Museum in Rome. The rich residency programme was developed by the MACRO museum team, offering the curators the opportunity to visit key contemporary art galleries and institutions and gain insight into the local art scene and its operational dynamics. The programme included visits to MAXXI, MACRO, BASEMENT CURA, Post Ex, Grossi Maglioni, Spazio In Situ, Sant’Andrea de Scaphis, and Istituto Svizzero, as well as meetings with local cultural field representatives, artists, and curators. These encounters with galleries and institutions provided an in-depth understanding of Rome’s contemporary art ecosystem, its interdisciplinary character, and its connections with the international art community. The curators also had the opportunity to conduct studio visits with artists based in Rome and to participate in other public events taking place at the museum during the residency week.

The Lithuanian Interdisciplinary Artists’ Association, together with MACRO – Museum of Contemporary Art of Rome, hopes that this pilot residency will develop into a recurring annual programme, enabling a greater number of curators from both countries to participate in residencies and creating new collaborative opportunities for artists, organizations, and audiences. Later this year, in June, curators Ginevra Ludovici and Ilaria Leonetti from Rome will take part in a residency at the SODAS 2123 cultural centre in Vilnius.

This Rome–Vilnius residency programme for curators is part of Cultura Lituana in Italia 2025–2026, implemented by the Lithuanian Culture Institute and the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in the Italian Republic.
Activities of the Lithuanian Interdisciplinary Artists’ Association are funded by the Lithuanian Council for Culture.
