INSTALLATIONS
18:00 – 21:00
Sculptural installation “Goodbye, Silica!” by Bon Alog
1st floor
‘…I am on the carpet of dunes, laying and thinking of nothing, soaked in ambience of the sea washing the shore. <…> Sandcastles have been built, washed over and over again.’
This long term ongoing project collecting silica gel packets from various daily purchases, reflects both communal and personal responsibility as well as an ostensible anonymity of mass processes. It conveys my interest in the concept of the “invisible horizon.”. Silica permeates our everyday lives, appearing in items ranging from computer microchips to building materials. Artistic research sheds light on how urbanization is shaped by deep-seated economic trends. This piece contemplates the notion of change and the paradox inherent in humanity’s progression: how our drive toward both innovation and self-destruction seems inescapable.
18:00 – 21:00
Sound installation “Save a dying bird?” by Jung Hsu’s
Studio 10A (1st floor)
In the 18th, miners used canaries as early detectors of lethal gases, a practice that elicited guilt as these birds sacrificed their lives. This reflects human-nature relationship, shifting from exploitation to empathy. Collective guilt inspires restoration efforts, yet, it might be too late. A melting wax canary bird symbolizes our failed attempts to preserve nature, which partly gone in time.
MUSIC
6PM – 8 PM
Improvised vinyl record DJ set by sound artist Arturas Bumšteinas
3rd floor corridor
