Performance art workshop „dialogical body“ at the cultural space Entity

On July 22, 2023, at 14:00, we invite you to Entity cultural space, located at the SODAS 2123 cultural centre, where the performance art workshop “Dialogical body” by Daina Pupkeviciute will take place.

This event is a part of “Blossom v1.2”.

This workshop is shaped for artists and art students that question principles of performative practice, as well as the value and role thereof in the context of climate and other crises. The participants are invited to discuss sustainable artistic practices and will be introduced to practices that are dialogical, embodied and place-based. The participants will approach sustainability practice that is both internal and external through some movement, body and listening exercises. These exercises are shaped to prepare for performative action and in pursuit of focusing to hear both oneself and the other.

Weather allowing, the workshop will start indoors and move outdoors after.

The participants are asked to be on time, wear comfortable clothing and shoes and have some water on them.

Would there be participants that do not speak Lithuanian, the working language will be English.

Daina Pupkevičiūtė produces sound, performance and text and researches human relationships with non-humans in the context of climate breakdown. Questions of sustainability and responsibility, body and politics, borders and limits are important to her. She is certain that art, as one among other forms of relationship-making, is never neutral.

Daina Pupkevičiūtė is an artist, educator, curator and one of the initiators of International Performance Art Festival CREATurE Live Art (2011-2018), organizer and curator of MATTERS. Platform for Industrial Culture (2018-2022). Her art practice is trans-disciplinary, some of it partly based on qualitative research methods and data. Since 2012 she’s been artist in residencies in Estonia, Germany, the UK, Portugal, Poland, Iceland and Lithuania; she’s performed in Lithuania, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Sweden, Switzerland, Iceland, Italy, Germany, Poland, the UK, Turkey and Bulgaria; she’s released 7 solo albums; her compositions found their way into international compilations, performance, contemporary dance, theater and film. Her artistic practice intertwines with research work. She is a doctoral student and junior researcher in the University of Tartu and researcher in the applied anthropology organization Anthropos. Her research focuses on climate crisis as resulting from the breakdown of relationships between humans and everyone else.
