More about “Verpėjos” art residency in Kabeliai.

An art residency program will begin in July 2022.

Artists invited i form of a competition will become the owners of the homestead. We offer them an authentic rural experience, the opportunity to work closely with each other, as well as with the locals and neighbours. Two artists residing at the same time will change every month.

The theme of this year art residency is “Verpėjos Creative Pastures”, which focuses on the slow process of artistic research and the long – term value for the creators and audience involved. At the end of the residency, the artists are not expected to have completed their art projects. The objective is that the gained experience, communion and discoveries would help them in their further work. Artists will be able to use various outbuildings and outdoor space in the homestead for the creative process. In one of the barns, the sheep will spend the nights and they will need to be taken care of.

In close communion with the animals and nature, the relationship between modern man and the environment in the anthropocene will be reconsidered.

Artists communion will be encouraged, not only with the surrounding villagers, animals and plants, but also with the co-creators. The routines and dynamics between the two artists living together will encourage the search for new forms of art research and dialogues that will be reflected in the planned publication and exhibition.

The event is partly funded by the Lithuanian Council for Culture.
