VGW program: “Ssshhh! No Fun At The Seated Discotheque”. Screening of Artūras Barysas-Baras films with curators Lijana Siuchina and David Elis.

Ironic creative practice defying prevailing social and aesthetic norms, bohemian lifestyle, crazy hairstyles. Artūras Barysas-Baras – legendary personality of Vilnius art scene, director of experimental films, vocalist of the avant-garde music group “Ir Visa Tai Kas Yra Gražu Yra Gražu”. Barysas’ short films, full of exuberant creative energy, are a unique testimony to the experimental film culture of the late Soviet era. The programme also includes a newly discovered and scandalous erotic film.

The films of Artūras Barysas-Baras will be presented by guests from London – Lijana Yakovlevna Siuchina and David Ellis.

London-based Rogue Curator and performer David Ellis will present a pre-screening 15 min digression on lesser-known aspects of film auteur, bibliophile, satirist, industrial noise supremacist, co-founder of IVTKYGYG and fop Arturas Barysas drawing on his own memories of Barysas and those within Barysas’s zigzagged orbit in both Vilnius and London.

Lijana Jakovlevna Siuchina is a multidisciplinary artist / practitioner, film programmer, and graphic designer based in London, film archives have been one of her core interests.
