INHERITED GAMES. Educational Akee and LIAA CHILDREN’S DAY CAMP in Aleknaičiai

2023-06-26

Aleknaičiai Culture and Education Space (Akee) together with the Lithuanian Interdisciplinary Artists’ Association (LTKMS) is organising a day camp for school children in Aleknaičiai village, Pakruojis district, in the territory of the former Aleknaičiai school and its surroundings, from 26-29 June 2023, which is aiming to develop sensitivity to the environment through creativity. The camp programme is designed and implemented by artists Bon Alog and Deinora Rudėnaitė together with artist and educator Simona Čemoškaitė. The camp programme is curated by Vilius Vaitiekūnas.

The theme of the camp – Hereditary Games – is inspired by the games created by the children themselves in the former Aleknaičiai school and passed on from generation to generation. In the context of constant change in educational systems and games, artists and researchers are invited to participate in the development of new research, experiential and educational approaches inspired by the theme of Akee Space. The camp programme has been designed and implemented by LIAA members artists Bon Alog and Deinora Rudėnaitė, assisted by artist and educator Simona Čemoškaitė. The camp programme is curated by Vilius Vaitiekūnas.

During the different sessions, participants are invited to explore their own natural creativity, the natural and historical environment of the Lygumų District, and to learn new creative techniques. Children work together to test how an image works and is created, construct cameras, learn about some of the oldest photographic methods, experiment with sustainable alternative printing methods, explore local plants and their cultural significance, and create and experiment with different ideas and images that are important to them.
