The largest cultural centre in Lithuania SODAS 2123 is starting its activities

The largest cultural centre in Lithuania SODAS 2123 (Vitebsko Str. 21 and 23, Vilnius) will start its public activities on 9–12 September. Opening program of performances, concerts, discussions, open artists’ studios and other events will be spread over these four days and will continue further until end of September. Some of the events will also be available in virtual space.

 

Cultural centre SODAS 2123 is a self-governed community-based space, operated and curated by Lithuanian Interdisciplinary Artists’ Association.It unites tens of creators and researchers of different fields, with practices based on experimentation, developing of unexpected formats and responding to latest cultural, social, geopolitical, ecological issues. With over 30 artist studios, rehearsing studios for music bands, offices of design, film, visual arts organisations, exhibition spaces, event spaces, various workshops, cafe, public outdoor garden space, public allotment and more – SODAS 2123 provides space for a variety of art and cultural disciplines, and each resident of the complex is open for sharing, learning and craftsmanship. From now on SODAS 2123 is definitely a new spot on the cultural map of Vilnius.

From September 2020 SODAS 2123 will be operating during events, while it is planned to fully open it at a later stage when the work around the indoor space and the outdoor environment is more complete.

Considering changing conditions of visiting public events and related public health concerns, the organisers are inviting to visit SODAS 2123 opening events throughout entire month of September. Full events programme will be regularly updated online.

SODAS 2123 has already received some special attention and its official opening is marked by participation at Ars Electronica international festival

Ars Electronicais one of the oldest festivals of art, technology and society in the world, taking place annually in Linz, Austria since 1979. It attracts more than 100,000 visitors from all over the world every year, but this year due to the pandemic it will spread to more than 120 locations around the world, which will be called gardens: Vilnius, Tokyo, Seoul, Rio de Janeiro, Los Angeles, Barcelona, etc.

The goal of this year’s Ars ElectronicaFestival is to test new models of hybrid reality and rethink how to bring together large groups of people and participate in cultural events in both physical and virtual space. Therefore, together with the festival team, a 3D scan of the entire building (SODAS 2123) and a square around it was created, where artworks will be presented during the festival and live streaming of events will take place.
