FACTS AND FICTION ABOUT SATURN: The Talk & TOUR

2020-07-23

The sixth, the only planet uniquely surrounded by the rings made of rocks, Saturn is undoubtedly the most mysterious planet of the Solar system, surrounded by myths for as long as the man has discovered it. Unsurprisingly, The Members of Saturn Youth Group were mesmerised by it and worked towards the ambitious plans to inhabit Saturn, to only find out that the planet’s surface is gas. While this discovery might have been the beginning of the group falling apart, we, their descendants, continue to research this unthinkable giant of a celestial body.

We kindly invite you to join us for the evening of collective efforts to untackle the common and more ambiguous predispositions about the central subject of the current exhibition: planet Saturn. The discussion with astronomer dr. Renata Minkevičiūtė and exhibiting artists Katerina Sidorova, Andrej Polukord, Saulė Noreikaitė, Indrė Liškauskaitė, Julia Carolin Cothe, Debbie Young and Sära Bjorg, moderated by philosopher Vilius Dranseika, will speculate on science, criticism and fiction. Visitors are encouraged to partake in our conversation and see for themselves the importance of creativity and imagination in scientific discoveries, activism as well as the role of Utopianism and myth-making in rethinking inhumane political realities.

30/07/2020, 7 pm “Atletika” gallery (Vitebsko 21, Vilnius).

The event will be held in English. The entry is free.

The exhibition is organised by „SID YOUNG“, Saulė Noreikaitė, Lithuanian Interdisciplinary Artists’ Association and VšĮ “Marginalia”
