A Relation To Infinity

April 2020

Dear Han,

It’s been about a year since I wrote you, and three months since we saw each other in Saigon. My grandpa was in the hospital then in critical condition, on the verge of crossing over. The idea of leaving the planet , or the planet leaving you , was constantly on my mind. Sometimes I would look up and imagine the sky emptying, clouds breaking in crumbs. One such morning, as my aunt was driving us back from breakfast on her motorbike, we stopped by a family-run photography business. She was picking up an order she placed, digital prints of my grandpa for his ancestral altar. A pre-emptive errand. She slipped the photos into a bag and through the plastic’s sheer crinkles I looked at him. Tones pinked, lines softened. He looked spotless and innocent. An apparition against the white background, the photo like an angel’s passport.

Hopes & Slopes. Exhibition

If one stares at the wall for a long time, the wall starts to move. To crave, to wag its tail, to drop its leaves or to sough, to growl, to tick, to show filtered faces,
to filter via Internet,
until it leaves one in solitude after bursting,
in front of a Facebook wall, where Zoom links ripple.
I get lost.

Presentation of “Sodų 4” Publication and Sound Performance by Patris

On Tuesday 3 March 2020 7 pm Lithuanian Interdisciplinary Artists’ Association is pleased to invite to the presentation of a newly published catalogue, documenting three-year history of its project space “Sodų 4”. The presentation will take place at the recently opened gallery “Atletika” (Vitebsko 21, Vilnius). During the event sound artist Patris Židelevičius will present his improvisational sound composition (curator Armantas Gečiauskas).
Project space “Sodų 4” was active between 2016–2019 in the Station district in Vilnius. During this period it was in the centre of many art and non-art events and presented over 50 projects by local and international artists, curators, scientists, researchers and others. This publication is a visual and text based documentation of the events at “Sodų 4”, which also includes discussions by its contributors about the need for such art spaces in the context of Vilnius art map.

Living Ornament

Atletika Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of its spring exhibition, Living Ornament.

‘Candles, cushions and vases do really well in times when money is tight’. As Emily Gordon-Smith (head of fashion at the consultancy Stylus) suggests in this quote, the legacy of the 2008 financial crisis can be felt in the boom in affordable homeware products in shops like H&M Home, Zara Home etc. Gordon-Smith was also making a point about how ornament and decoration are not only symptoms of changing social, cultural and economic relations but also the agents used to negotiate and reconfigure them. From this perspective, the exhibition ‘Living Ornament’ takes decorating and ornament seriously, asking why they have been and continue to be simultaneously dismissed as frivolous and condemned as dangerous.

Media Symposium “Diet vs. Feast”: Vegeta Congress 2020

If you could imagine yourself as a dietologist, what diet would you suggest? And if by any chance you would position yourself as a media harmonist – what would be your advise on how to balance out one’s media consumption?

During this symposium emerging artists, designers, architects and theoreticians will reconsider media via the concept of “diet”. To what extent could this concept be productive in the light of analysing the consumption of media and the process of generating media.

Laurynas Skeisgiela: Mažo miestelio mirties melodijos

Atvykstame temstant. Įsijungiame infraredinį šildytuvą ir plėvele užklijuojame būsimų durų angą. Anksčiau čia veikė kepykla. Pirmajame jos aukšte persipynę sudegusio cukraus ir pelėsio kvapai. Slidinėdami ant blizgančio, nevalytų riebalų paviršiaus tiesiame laidus. Čia bus koncertų salė. Limpančių prailgintuvų mazgas nutiestas laiptais aukštyn jungia dar keturias projekcijas. Dėl tvyrančio šalčio bei laiko stokos viską nešame sujungę kartu. Aštriais spinduliais pulsuojantis koridorius kupinas šviesos pluošte skraidančių dulkių, galimybių ir svetimų sapnų.

Atkirtis kompromisui. Roberto Narkaus performansas

Esame visuomenė, kurioje gebėjimas susitarti yra labai vertinamas, nors dažnai tai veda į status quo, štilį, galios pusiausvyrą, tereiškiančią progresyviai augančią politinę įtampą, klimato kaitą, socialinę neteisybę.
